Support Diploma Privilege Legislation

1,484 so far! Let’s get to 2,000 signers!

I am writing to urge you to support S8827A/A10846 to grant emergency diploma privilege to recent law graduates. The current plan to hold an online bar exam in October is technologically infeasible and socially inequitable. This bill offers an alternate path to licensure and would ensure recent law graduates can begin to work and provide New Yorkers with legal services. Other states have yet to hold a successful online bar exam of this scale, and we have no assurance that New York’s software vendor, ExamSoft, is capable of administering this exam for 30,000 graduates across the country at the same time. Key questions about the feasibility, accessibility, and safety of this exam have gone unanswered and, in the meantime, graduates are facing financial and housing insecurity, losing their health insurance coverage, and juggling caretaking responsibilities. Diploma privilege is the only equitable solution. I ask that you cosponsor and support S8827A/A10846.
