An open letter to the U.S. Congress Support the Justice in Policing Act of 2020
6 so far! Let’s get to 10 signers! I am writing to request that you support the Justice in Policing Act of 2020. For too long, police officers have been able to injure and kill unarmed, non-violent Black men, women, and children and claim they “feared for their lives.” Aside from community outrage, most have faced zero legal repercussions for their actions.
The Justice in Policing Act of 2020 is needed not only to remove qualified immunity and increase police accountability, but also to improve training and data collection and implement some level of police reform. Unless we enact some level of change and consequences for police officers, Black Americans will continue to be profiled and brutalized by those sworn to protect and serve. For our Black friends and neighbors we must expect and demand better. We must hold police accountable for their actions. We must make changes. Please be part of that change and vote to support of the Justice in Policing Act of 2020.
