I am a self-employed business owner in the mental health field. I provide services to adults and adolescents suffering from depression, anxiety, PTSD, and mood instability. My services are critical during this crisis and I need to stay in business.
I have been impacted by COVID-19 by having to switch to tele-psychotherapy and loss of revenue due to many of my patients already being laid off and losing their income and health insurance, and still need to pay for my office rent, my practice management software, and marketing to bring in new patients. I need help to stay in business, continue supporting myself, my family and to continue providing services to human beings in such vulnerable circumstances during such vulnerable times.
I am as important to this economy and in as dire as any employee. Because I am a sole proprietor and am not taxed as a Corporation, I cannot get unemployment benefits. I will not be helped by grants to cover payroll. I am actively working in my business and provide vital help to humans who are suffering every day. I need to keep working.
Before COVID-19 I was able to support myself with my business operations and now I am experiencing decreased revenue and increased expenses. I need help to stay in business for the duration of the COVID-19 virus, to keep working, and deal with the loss of revenue because of the financial crisis we are facing as a country. Please include the self-employed in the tax relief you are voting on now.
