An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures (NY only)

Support Online Voter Registration with S6463/A8473

958 so far! Let’s get to 1,000 signers!

I would like to voice my support for Senate bill S6463 and Assembly bill A8473 which would require the New York City (NYC) Board of Elections (BOE) to accept online voter registrations through the online voter registration (OVR) system created by the NYC Campaign Finance Board in 2018. Without this legislation, the NYC BOE said it could not accept registrations from this system due to a lack of clear guidance from the New York State BOE. Registering to vote in NYC is harder than it needs to be. Today, only New Yorkers with a valid DMV-issued state ID or driver’s license are eligible to register online. That means over 750,000 New Yorkers are only eligible to register to vote by printing out and mailing in a paper application form. That is unacceptable in 2020. Please tell NY Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and NY Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie that New Yorkers want our state legislature to pass Senate bill S6463 and Assembly bill A8473. We need to ensure that voices of all New Yorker’s are heard and this legislation is a step in making this possible. I urge you to vote YES on S6463 and A8473.
