H.R.7085 End Qualified Immunity Act

102 so far! Let’s get to 250 signers!

As a constituent, I am incredibly distressed about the murders at the hands of law enforcement which has disproportionately affected the Black community in its entirety. There should not be an excuse for police brutality which is why I am in support of H.R 7085 to end Qualified Immunity which has resulted in a complete absence of accountability. By amending section 1983 to clearly state that this doctrine that was introduced by the Supreme Court does NOT provide law enforcement with defense or immunity from liability after violating civil rights will promote the safety and civil rights of those disproportionately affected. The fact that Qualified Immunity has emboldened people inside and outside of law enforcement with racial biases to commit crimes against Black people as was the case with Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and many others sickens me to my core. I wish that this bill were introduced much sooner. I urge you to support this bill. Thank you for your service, time and commitment to our community. I look forward to communicating with you in regard to similar issues.
