An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures (NY only)

Support to Repeal the #WalkingWhileTrans ban

11,621 so far! Let’s get to 25,000 signers!

I would like to voice my support for the repeal of the Walking While Trans Ban (Loitering for the Purpose of Prostitution law). In light of recent events, we need the legislature to act and prioritize police accountability, while also protecting our most vulnerable populations. Black and Brown trans women are the foundation of the LGBTQ movement. This year, we must recognize the disproportionate impact of police brutality on Black and Brown Trans women. I ask you to let NY Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Speaker Carl Heastie know that New Yorkers WANT our state legislatures to reconvene session to VOTE to repeal the Walking While Trans Ban. Now more than ever, we need our state legislature to repeal laws that enable unjust racial profiling, police harassment, and violence against Black and Brown communities. I implore you to vote to repeal the Walking While Trans Ban. Doing so will send a strong message to your voters, and the nation at large, that you value the civil rights of all citizens.
