An open letter to the U.S. Senate Oppose S. 1394
6 so far! Let’s get to 10 signers! I am writing to oppose S.1394 - Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act. My specific objection relates to the unionization of police. Multiple independent studies have shown that when police departments unionize and gain access to collective bargaining rights, the rate of civilian killings by police officers goes up. Police killings have also been shown to disproportionately affect black and brown citizens.
In the wake of recent Black Lives Matter demonstrations and police brutality protests, I expect you to show your support for the black community, and to commit to enacting change to support the oppressed in our country.
Please reconsider your stance on S. 1394 and rescind your cosponsorship of the bill.
