An open letter to State Legislatures

Remove/repeal the fireworks segment of House Bill 542 Act 43

11 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers!

It’s time to remove/repeal the fireworks segment of House Bill 542 Act 43. Fireworks and explosives are being used all year, at all hours of the day and night. It’s common to heard loud explosions from people setting of what are basically bombs. This is a public health and safety problem. Just last night a 13 year old boy was taken to the hospital because other people shot fireworks at him. Often these fireworks are set off illegally and within 150ft of a structure, but police refuse to respond or enforce because of Bill 542. This is unsafe and puts others at risk. I’m addition to the danger to people, fireworks and firecrackers are traumatizing to animals. Thousands of dogs, cats, horses, wildlife creatures and even veterans suffering from PTSD have had to undergo evenings of anxiety, illness and in some extreme cases, death caused by the extraordinary fear. In suburban and rural areas, residents have noticed a huge increase in the use and frequency of explosives. Disregard for property boundaries, safety of livestock, pets, children and a simple regard for peace and consideration of neighbors is violated year round. Dogs and horses especially, with their highly developed hearing, are the worst victims of this completely unnecessary form of 'entertainment'. Many infants and younger children also react with extreme upset to the extreme sound. There are multiple online petitions.
