Impeach President Donald Trump again. The President’s comments on election security and outcome are a challenge to the legitimacy of any elected office holder this year regardless of party affiliation. On September 23, 2020, President Trump stated in a press conference “Get rid of the ballots and you’ll have a very – we’ll have a very peaceful – there won’t be a transfer frankly, there’ll be a continuation.” He continues to openly and without reservation demonstrate that he will “remain a threat to the Constitution if allowed to remain in office,” acts “in a manner grossly incompatible with self-governance and the rule of law,” (House Resolution 755-3, last paragraph).
In multiple interviews, he continues to hedge on a peaceful transition of power if he loses the election. In campaign speeches, he “jokes” about serving more than two terms as president. He sets himself up to overthrow election results and be a dictator. This assault on structural democratic norms is coming from the White House. Our house.
The United States is not a dictatorship. This is treasonous. Impeach him.
In campaign rallies, he encourages violence, civil war, and anarchy. This is seditious. Impeach him.
The Republican Senate majority may choose to evade their role in impeachment as jurists with the power to convict and remove, but if Trump has his way as he proposes with this election, the Republican Party will have legitimacy as a cult only.
Impeach President Donald Trump.
