Campaign in Support of CA Prop 17

12 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers!

As a voter and constituent, I must urge you to campaign in support of Proposition 17 (details in footnotes) in support of allowing individuals on parole to vote. Directing campaign funds to educate and inform voters about this issue is paramount to democracy, free elections, and racial justice. Disallowing parolees to vote is a voter suppression tactic preventing 50,000 Californians from voting. Historically, these measures are rooted in Jim Crow laws and serve only to suppress voters in minority communities who are disproportionately policed. This fundamentally opposes a free democracy and is a relic of systemic racial injustice codified in our state constitution. Please stand with the CA ALCU and CA Women's Voters League on Prop 17 and use your resources to inform voters of this vital movement. Thank you. ----- Proposition 17: - ACA 6 - “Directs the Legislature to provide for the disqualification of electors who are serving a state or federal prison sentence for the conviction of a felony. Deletes the requirement that the Legislature provide for the disqualification of electors while on parole for the conviction of a felony.” - -
