Yesterday we lost an icon. A woman who fought her whole life for freedoms and equality. A woman who dedicated her life to do what is right and what is right for this country. It is a sad day for us all to lose that voice in our highest court.
Yesterday, not leaving any time to reflect on her passing, her history, or her contribution to our country, the majority leader decided to prove himself the biggest hypocrite of them all.
In February 2016, he said, “The American people are perfectly capable of having their say on this issue, so let's give them a voice. Let's let the American people decide. The Senate will appropriately revisit the matter when it considers the qualifications of the nominee the next president nominates, whoever that might be."
But yesterday, despite being in a lunch closer proximity to the election than we were when we lost another icon of our highest court, Mitch McConnell say this: “President Trump’s nominee will receive a vote on the floor of the United States Senate.”
As we all know, your chamber has ceased working for the people. Ceased considering the best interest of the people. Instead, you engage in sports team politics. Its all fair as long as your team wins.
This is NOT how congress is supposed to work.
We, the people, demand that you start working for us again. We demand that you do what is right for America and Americans. We demand that you follow the McConnell Doctrine and hold the vote on any nomination until after election day (should the lame duck president prove to not be so lame), or after January 21 when a new president is installed.
We the people want to have our say. We had it in 2016. We want it now.
