An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Demilitarize the Police

12 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers!

I am a constituent from your district who is deeply concerned by the ongoing force and violence that police officers are using against civilians. Access to military-grade weapons and equipment has transformed police departments across the nation, and recent studies have even suggested that the receipt of military equipment by law enforcement agencies leads to an increase in the number of civilians killed by officers. I urge you to support acts that advocate for the demilitarization of the police, especially those that place restrictions on the 1033 Program and the 1122 Program. Please consider supporting acts such as Rep. Johnson's "Stop Militarizing Law Enforcement Act", Rep. Moore's "Preventing Tragedies Between Police and Communities Act", and Rep. Jeffries' "Eric Garner Excessive Use of Force Prevention Act". Americans will not tolerate the continued use of military weapons and tactics against civilians. I'll be eagerly awaiting your public announcement of support, and I will be voting in November with this issue in mind. Thank you for your time and consideration.
