An open letter to the U.S. Congress

CRITICAL medication shortages for COVID patients, lift DEA production limits!!

9 so far! Let’s get to 10 signers!

Senators, this is an urgent plea. Can you imagine a loved one falling ill with COVID-19 and not being able to be placed on a ventilator because the physicians don't the medication able to sedate them? We are dangerously close to this becoming our reality. During this pandemic, it is critical that the DEA temporarily suspend the production quotas on life saving medications. As you are aware, the DEA has cut supply by large amounts in previous years, due to the misguided thought that the production of medications somehow led to the overdose crisis. That premise has been disproven and the reality is now clear: illicitly manufactured fentanyl is to blame for the vast majority of those deaths. In addition to intractable pain patients, cancer patients and hospice patients not having access to these vital medications because of the DEA's quotas, COVID-19 patients now risk substandard treatment due to these shortages. Please work with your colleagues across the aisle to ensure the DEA lifts these draconian limits on our nation's drug supply. All of our lives quite literally depend on it.
