An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures Compensate Teachers Appropriately
7 so far! Let’s get to 10 signers! My name is Sarah. I was born in Austin, and I am now teaching in the area. We are concerned about receiving our raises this year. You'd think that considering the amount of extra hours we're putting in, we'd be compensated appropriately, but according to our board, they are limited to giving raises if and only if we get 1,000 more students enrolled by next month.
Why is the burden of enrollment numbers being placed on teachers?
When you don't value education or educators, the ability of citizens to generate independent, critical thought is greatly impaired.
Please value independent, free-thinking Texans.
Value education. Value teachers. Make sure we get our step raises AND extra pay as a result of the extra work we're doing.
I know you'll ensure that a comprehensive free and public education remains a staple in our community. Thank you for caring about teachers and ensuring that every Texan gets a proper, thorough education from someone who is respected by their government.
