An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Condemn Trump's contempt for our injured veterans

22 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers!

As commander in chief, a president can command our armed forces to undertake suitors where they risk their lives. In the past we have trusted our presidents to honor the gravity of the power if commander in chief by profoundest respect for the lives of those who serve in uniform, appreciation of their sacrifices, and adherence to the oath to the constitution. All this is a sacred trust. Trump has violated that trust, demonstrating gleeful contempt for the constitution and our laws. He has also shown reckless disregard for the lives of all citizens with each disastrous misstep in Covid policy. Yesterday it was reported that Trump referred to our forces who are killed in service as losers, that he expressed the wish to exclude injured and handicapped veterans from parades, and that he used words like "sucker" . I am shocked beyond words by this obscene violation on the part of our commander in chief. A person who evaded military service as a youth and blatantly despises the sacrifices of those who risk their lives for our nation should never be allowed to act as commander in chief. I call on you to condemn the words and attitude of Trump immediately. I also ask you to propose a congressional resolution of condemnation of the president's conduct.
