Support S8902 — Absentee Ballot Drop-off Locations

8 so far! Let’s get to 10 signers!

Thank you for allowing COVID to be an excuse for absentee ballots for the November elections. We need to do more to ensure safe voting for New Yorkers. Please co-sponsor and support Brad Hoylman’s state senate bill S8902 which authorizes the Board of Elections to establish absentee ballot drop-off locations. While I understand ballots will be counted if postmarked by November 3 and delivered 7 days later, I’m not sure the USPS will be able to handle the timeline if their service is being compromised by Postmaster DeJoy. Publicly he has stated that he will reverse his recent policies which has led to a major mail slowdown, while privately he has instructed USPS employees not to reinstall sorting machines and he has told Speaker Pelosi that he will not replace missing mailboxes. As the House and Senate are in the process of sorting it out, New Yorkers need a plan B — a safe, touchless place to drop off an absentee ballot during a pandemic and make sure it gets counted without relying on the USPS. Elections should be free and fair. They should also be free from interference. Thank you for your attention.
