An open letter to State Governors Keep Minnesotans In Their Homes
23 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers! Landlords and banks have made it clear: once the Minnesota freeze on evictions and foreclosures is over, we are all tossed out for nonpayment of rent and mortgage.
Many of us have lost work due to the state shutdown. In order to pay rent, we need time to find new employment, AND we need time to get paid, in order to pay rent on our current residence or on a new one.
Without extending 20-14 for at least a month, here’s what will happen:
1) landlords will evict and banks will foreclose; 2) Minnesotans will be stuck looking for work while fighting eviction and foreclosure; 3) Minnesotans, without employment, will be unable to secure new places to live; 4) Minnesotans will wind up homeless or being helped monetarily by the state.
Extend order 20-14 for at least one month after the state reopening in order to secure the homed status of thousands of Minnesotans.
