An open letter to State Governors Financial assistance during coronavirus
8 so far! Let’s get to 10 signers! Dear Governor Whitmer,
If you are considering closing all non-essential business in Michigan as many other states have done, I beg you to please consider the following: Hundreds of thousands of our community members are employed by these businesses. Many of them do not receive paid time off and are living paycheck to paycheck. For these people, government mandated time off could be devastating.
Please make providing all essential utilities free of charge at this time a top priority. I ask that you mandate all utility companies that provide services such as sewer, water, natural gas, electricity, and waste removal halt payment collection immediately.
In addition, I urge you to push for the forbearance of rent, mortgage, and loan payment collection. Many hard-working families will not make it through this crisis without these protections.
Thank you for your time.
