An open letter to the U.S. Congress Navajo Nation Death Penalty Case - Lezmond Mitchell Case
18 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers! I am writing to urge you to ask President Trump to commute the death sentence to life without parole for Lezmond Mitchell, a member of the Navajo Nation, whose crimes were committed on the Navajo Reservation against other Navajos. The Navajo Nation opposes the imposition of the death sentence, as did the family of the victims. The deeply troubling circumstances surrounding this matter are described in today's New York Times, entitled "An Affront to Tribal Sovereignty" by Carl Slater, a Navajo Nation Council Delegate.

As the execution is scheduled for August 26, I urge you to take immediate action.
