An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures

Pledge To Protect Democracy

31 so far! Let’s get to 50 signers!

On September 23, President Trump was asked if he would commit to providing a peaceful transition of power after Election Day. He refused to do so. Instead, the President complained about ballots and then said "get rid of the ballots and... there won't be a transfer, frankly. There'll be a continuation." The Atlantic reports that the Trump campaign is discussing "contingency plans to bypass election results and appoint loyal electors in battleground states where Republicans hold a legislative majority." If that happens, the United States will cease to be a constitutional republic and become something else. It can not be allowed to stand. You must join state legislators across the nation in standing up to this existential threat to our democracy. You must pledge - publicly - to ensure that our state's electoral votes are awarded to the candidate that wins the popular vote in our state. Ben Franklin was once asked, as he exited the Constitutional Convention, what sort of government it was that the Convention has produced: a Republic or a Monarchy. Franklin responded, "a Republic, if you can keep it." Please, rise to Mr Franklin's challenge.
