Removal of the Columbus Statue

10 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers!

For many decades, the Native American community has worked to remove the Columbus statue in downtown Denver. There are many reasons for this, but most notably Columbus did not discover America. According to his own Diaries, Columbus was a man who rewarded his men with little Arawak and Taino children to use as as sex slaves. He and his men murdered thousands of innocent native people and initiated the genocide of the Taino and the Arawak peoples. Columbus also initiated the transatlantic slave trade. To continue to honor Columbus with a statue shows the world that Colorado disregards the human rights of indigenous people. It is time to do the right thing. It is time to be on the correct side of History. It is time to remove the statue of Columbus.
