A Disaster at the Post Office on Your Watch

6 so far! Let’s get to 10 signers!

I’m greatly concerned by the latest developments with the United States Postal Postal Service, especially considering how important it will be in the upcoming election. Since taking office as Postmaster General, DeJoy has severely restricted the ability of the Post Office to deliver mail on time by slashing overtime, has dismissed executives with decades of experience delivering the mail, and has informed local governments that they will no longer be able to pay lower rates for ballots. DeJoy, who owns millions in stock of competitors to the USPS, claims that this is based on his business judgment to increase revenue. Leaving aside obvious conflicts of interest, both from his private investments and his close connection to President Trump, why is this a priority right now? You earlier assured me you would help resuscitate the USPS, in response to other communications. You have also repeatedly assured me and other constituents that you would do whatever it takes to help Americans during the COVID-19 crisis. Why are you turning your back on the Post Office, a vital service to all Americans? Why do we treat the Post Office, a public service, differently than the highways and roads and sidewalks we build all over the country? Why do we treat the Post Office differently than the broadband for schools that has been built with government grants for the past 25 years? Given that you represent Utah, a state that conducts elections almost entirely with mail-in ballots, your lack of leadership, your unwillingness to stand up to President Trump, and your inattentiveness in defending the Post Office, is disappointing.
