Hold Perpetrators of Sexual Violence Accountable

31 so far! Let’s get to 50 signers!

In recent weeks we have seen an alarming increase in violence and sexual violence against women. From 7 Asian women being shot in their places of work to women being murdered on their way home, it is clear that there is a problem. Honestly, it has been clear that there has been a problem for centuries, but today I write to you with a specific new frustration and anxiety in mind. Just days ago, the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled that perpetrators of sexual violence cannot be held accountable if their victim voluntarily used alcohol or drugs. Yet again blaming the victim, and letting the abuser go free. Women already fear for their lives every time they leave the house, gripping their keys for self defense and telling their friends their location at all times. This new decision worsens women’s fear and gives abusers more freedom to do as they please. Today, I ask that you represent the women of your constituency accurately by: 1. Supporting and introducing legislation that holds perpetrators of sexual violence accountable 2. Remind your colleagues in Minnesota (and other states with similar precedents) to represent their whole population by protecting women 3. Use your platform to speak out about sexual violence. Thank you for your support.
