An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures Suspend Rent and Utility Payments
21 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers! Thank you for your prompt response to my last letter. I am happy to see that more guidelines are being implemented to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, but I am concerned not enough is being done to protect people financially. At a time when so many people are at risk of losing their jobs or small businesses, it is absurd to allow landlords and utility companies to continue to charge for services that are essential to every human's well-being. This is why I'm asking you to do everything you can to require a suspension of collection on rents, water, electric, phone, and internet services until this pandemic is contained. These institutions are large enough to weather the storm, and are more likely to be subsidized by the federal government, whereas innumerable people could lose everything if they miss a single rent or utility payment. Please take this action to protect those among us who are most in need. Use your power for good now and we will remember it the next time you ask us to support you.
