An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Stop the executions of C. Johnson and D. Higgs

6 so far! Let’s get to 10 signers!

I'm asking for your support in stopping the planned executions of Corey Johnson and Dustin Higgs, scheduled for tonight, January 14th, and tomorrow, January 15th, respectively. It is unlawful to move forward with Mr. Johnson's execution due to his documented intellectual disability, as according to the 2002 Supreme Court ruling in Atkins v. Virginia. He has been imprisoned in solitary confinement for 29 years and expresses deep regret for the crimes committed. Likewise, Mr. Higgs' case is fraught with junk science and false forensics, as well as a signed affadavit from the man who committed the murders that Mr. Higgs is to be executed for, stating that Mr. Higgs is not guilty. He did not kill anyone and should not be put to death. Both of these executions will do nothing for the likes of "justice," nor will they repair harm done. Carrying through with either execution would only serve as an inhumane and cruel punishment.
