An open letter to the U.S. House of Representatives
Reconvene and Impeach!
22 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers!
First of all, I am relieved you and your staff are safe. No one should ever have to experience what you all did yesterday. I commend your floor speech last night, but I’m disappointed and frankly incredulous at the lack of follow through action. You are an influential voice trusted by House Democratic leadership, who I believe are making a grave mistake by adjourning without starting impeachment proceedings for Trump’s incitement of yesterday’s violent coup attempt. Not only is this stand on principle necessary to provide more than zero deterrence for those who would make future attempts (next decade or tomorrow), but it also puts the senate in a position to swiftly remove in the not unlikely case that Trump continues to lash out in ever more dangerous ways. It also continues and controls the news cycle, and doesn’t give time for disinformation and propaganda to fill the void minimizing, rationalizing, or outright lying about the assault on our Republic that occurred yesterday. If you do not stay in Washington and advocate for immediate impeachment, I at least request an explanation for why not so I can weigh whether to continue supporting you as my member of Congress.
