An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures (MN only)

Don't let the GOP silence protest on threats of denial of state entitlements!

8 so far! Let’s get to 10 signers!

As a constituent of St Paul, I am writing to you this morning after allowing hope to enter my heart after the small first step at racial justice in MN with the guilty verdict of Derek Chauvin in the murder of George Floyd. I am very concerned about proposed bill SF 2381, which would deny anyone convicted of an offence at a protest any state loans or assistance. Civil disobedience has a place in any strong democracy. The people have a right to their voice. This bill would take that right upon threat of taking away schooling or denying heat and energy assistance in a cold winter, take away a child's right to eat with supplemental nutrition assistance. Do we really want to live in a community that says to it's citizens, "If you speak up to create a better world for your children, you may not be able to feed them, send them to school or keep them warm in the winter so you better keep that mouth shut."? I do not want to live in that community. I do not want that for out community. Use your voices, your power and your office to fight this egregious attempt to silence the voices that the GOP doesn't agree with. Thank you.
