The Sikh community is very concerned about the mistreatment by the Indian government to our farmers. Millions of farmers are converging on the capital city of New Delhi to demand the repeal of new laws that deregulate agricultural markets. Punjab is an agricultural state and it supplies to more than half of India’s 1.3 billion population. 250 million workers, farmers and their allies have joined this strike, making it the largest protest in the whole world. Peaceful Protests are going on in Punjab from the past 3 months. Now, farmers from many states are taking their voices to Delhi. While farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and many more states are in Delhi, they are being harassed aggressively by the Indian Police. Water cannons and tear gas are being fired at them. Delhi just had its coldest day recorded since 70 years, and water cannons are being shot at innocent peaceful elderly protestors. Sikh farmers, some even around the age of 60-80 years old were beaten with Rods. All the protesters were stopped by blocking the roads by barricades. Not just that, Sikh farmers of Punjab were defamed in the Indian National Media as Terrorists, to create a negative image, so the narrative can be changed and the crackdown can begin. All across America, Sikh Communities have started their protests outside Indian Consulate In Newyork, California, and many more states. NewYork Times, Wall Street Journal, BBC,CNN and many Major newspapers & channels have covered stories. Many Members of the Parliament from U.K and Canada, including the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, has showed their solidarity towards farmers and supported the rights to a peaceful protest. Being an advocate for the American constitution, we believe that you must raise your voice against India tyranny, and speak up against India’s fascist agenda, to suppress minorities through various means. Also, America being an ally to India, who claims itself to be a democratic country, has a moral obligation to correct India. We are worried about our families back home due to Covid-19, but these new laws have raised concerns about their livelihood, existence,Identity and future. These laws have created a state of panic for the existence of Punjab, and we just hope that the Indian Govt. takes back these laws. State of Connecticut being a champion on issues of Human rights, have also recognized 1984 Sikh Genocide by Indian Govt. and we expect the boldness from our Federal Leaders as well. You have always been supportive to our community, and we expect you to bring resolution in support of farmers of Punjab and India. We, people of your constituency , urge you to highlight this issue. You must show your commitment for democratic values, and issue statement in regards to this issue. We also urge you to contact the US State department to take steps to ensure that the people of Punjab and all the protesters are safe, and are given the opportunity to do a peaceful protest.
