Please Vote No on HB2295 To whom it may concern, I am a concerned resident and constituent. HB2295 of the 55th Arizona State Legislature is a dangerous bill because it reduces public health and safety for the people in Arizona. HB2295 allows law enforcement officers to appeal being placed on the Brady List, i.e. a list of dishonest officers. After an officer has been investigated and determined to be a danger to the public, the public has a right to know which officers are dangerous in order to secure our health and safety in the State of Arizona. HB2295 allows law enforcement officers to abuse the system by allowing them an appeal process that prevents the public from effectively knowing about the dangers that they pose to the public. HB2295 requires that a prosecuting agency send a notice to law enforcement officers at least 10 days before the prosecuting agency places the law enforcement officer onto the 15.1 database, a.k.a. Brady List. HB2295 also prevents agencies from using the Brady List in hiring or firing practices. HB2295 also makes the Brady List confidential. HB2295, therefore, decreases public health and safety in a state with the deadliest police department in the USA. As a resident and constituent, I am concerned for the health and safety of my community already. Passing and implementing HB2295 will make our deadliest police department in the USA even deadlier. Additionally, Rebecca Baker, legislative liaison for the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office (MCAO), has expressed concern that the 10 day mandatory notice by the prosecuting agency in HB2295 impacts due process for defendants. HB2295 will prohibit the MCAO and other similar agencies from sending Brady List information out until the 10 day period is over. HB2295, therefore, will delay disclosures about officers who are threats to public health and safety and HB2295 will adversely impact convictions of people being targeted by officers who are threats to public health and safety. As a resident and constituent, I am demanding that you vote no on HB2295. I want Arizona to be a safe place for all people. HB2295 will embolden the deadliest police department in the USA to be even deadlier. This is unacceptable, and I need you to vote no on HB2295. Sincerely,
