An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Please vote against SISEA!

19 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers!

I'm writing to implore you to vote against the proposed SISEA legislation. This bill's alleged aims are to stop sex trafficking and exploitation. In practice, it would hugely limit all sexual expression online - not just sex work like porn - but the work of photographers working with nude models, dancers and circus artists, sex educators, and everyday citizens who want to express themselves. Individuals who posted their own content could be harassed because of the ID requirements. Small content creators would have a huge burden because of the 24-hour support requirement. This bill would be catastrophic for sex workers too, who rely on internet platforms for a safe, convenient, profitable and legal way to offer human connection to others online. Sex workers might not be people you care about, but everyone younger than 30 sees them as fellow human beings trying to pay rent just like any other worker. We will be watching how you vote. I hope it is against this bill, and against the prude, puritanical, outdated ideas that it represents while masquerading as being "anti-exploitation".
