I'm writing to your office to ask that we NOT rescind the mask mandate in Texas.
Masks along with social distancing and other COVID-19 prevention protocols have been vital in ensuring that our medical system is not overwhelmed with cases.
Only 12% of Texans have been vaccinated and it is currently limited to priority groups. Teachers, retail workers, bus drivers and others exposed to the virus on the job, are not eligible.
We currently average 5,000 new cases per day, and becoming lax with restrictions now raises the risk of more transmissible variants rolling back any progress we've made.
Please allow the mask mandate to remain in effect until the vaccine is more accessible to ALL Texans and also allow local government to enforce mask mandates in their respective areas.
