An open letter to the U.S. Senate Impeachment trial
14 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers! I was very disappointed that you voted in support of Rand Paul's motion today. The Constitution says "judgment in cases of impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States." The disqualification to hold future office is clearly spelled out and is absolutely necessary to protect our Republic.
Donald Trump's actions leading up to and on January 6th were reprehensible. The timing of the date on which a President chooses to commit a crime should have no bearing on accountability for said crime.
I hope you will listen to the evidence presented in the trial and vote with the future of this country in mind. History will be watching.
