Sen. Tom Rice defended our constitution as he promised to do in his sworn oath. He did it despite knowing there would be political fallout and backlash from his constituency that includes Trump supporters. I am a Democrat in this very red state and often lose faith in my elected officials because they are rarely supporting things I find important. I accept that living here means I am in the minority. However, it was so nice, for once to be able to be proud of my elected official. Senator Graham and Senator Scott will likely not be able to look beyond party politics to do the same and defend our constitution by convicting Donald Trump in his upcoming impeachment trial. I ask them both to consider risking Trump's base and vote to convict him on those impeachment charges.
I believe in our two party system. I believe Graham and Scott have an opportunity to re-engineer the Republican Party into a worth opponent in future elections. Perhaps Graham and Scott will follow Rice's lead in breaking from the Trump lock step and vote in favor of true accountability.
Thank you Rep. Rice for the tremendous courage it took to risk censure. In doing so, you actually represented those of us who so often feel unheard in this state.
