Demand The Removal of President Trump Under The 25th Amendment
Since the announcement of his intent to run for the Presidency in 2015, President Donald J. Trump has fanned the flames of division in politics. His hateful and distasteful rhetoric has encouraged everyday American citizens to turn against and despise those who they view as different from them. His political ideology has sparked a culture of mistrust of truth and democracy in the service of “Making America Great Again”. This culture came to a head on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 as thousands of his supporters descended on our nations capital to “Stop The Steal” of a Presidential election that has been decided for over two months. His barrage of lies and conspiracy theories encouraged his supporters to takeover our nation’s Capitol, which hasn’t been under siege since our nation was at war with itself. These supporters subverted barricades to occupy the halls of the Capitol, as well as the Senate floor. Their actions required our Congressional leaders to abandon their posts as they prepared to execute their Constitutional duty of counting and certifying the Electoral College votes. As a fellow American I watched in astonishment as these Pro-Trump supporters paraded around the sacred ground of the Capitol building. I watched as they vandalized offices, destroyed property, and proudly documented their exploits using their mobile devices. I also watched as President Donald J. Trump refused to condemn their actions before reluctantly deciding to post a tweet. In his tweet he once again peddled a false narrative about a “stolen election” and validated their actions. It is for this reason that I am writing to you today. I can no longer sit back and watch President Donald J. Trump sow division in this country as he attacks democracy. In short, the Twenty-Fifth Amendment of The Constitution states that the President of The United States can be removed from office if he is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his position. President Donald J. Trump’s actions on January 6, 2021 show that he is unable to lead. His commitments to serving himself regardless of how his actions destroy democracy and civility in this nation prove him to be unfit to fulfill the remainder of his term as the 45th President of The United States. As a constitute of the great state you represent I expect you to fight to preserve democracy in our nation by demanding the removal of Donald J. Trump as President via the Twenty-Fifth Amendment of The Constitution.
