An open letter to the U.S. Congress Hold Vilsack accountable for his record
15 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers! I am concerned about the re-appointment of Tom Vilsack to US Secretary of Agriculture, and hope that you will diligently question his qualifications during the confirmation process. His record as a friend of corporate agribusiness poses a direct threat to independent farming in the United states. I am also concerned with his record on race relations and previous treatment of African American farmers' bias complaints, as well as manipulation of data to create a "Black Farming Renaissance" that was overstated, to the detriment of the community it purported to represent. It is not enough to simply return our country to the way it was before Trump. If we do not seek to improve our own policies to remedy the inequalities that Trump's presidency made clear, we have learned nothing from the past four years.
