There have been nearly 3,000 reports of anti-Asian discrimination across the nation since the coronavirus pandemic began and the number continues to rise. While lawmakers have denounced these hate crimes, we are petitioning for stronger action from our government officials.
We are calling on Congress to pass legislation to provide greater support to victims, investigate these crimes, and create awareness in AAPI communities to report these crimes in a variety of languages. Through making reporting more accessible, we will have insight into the true number of these hate crimes and can focus on mechanisms that will prevent them in the future. Through driving more awareness, we can help empower those who have suffered from these attacks to speak up. We ask Congress to pass legislation to provide DOJ grants to state and local governments to drive this initiatives at a local level.
