Help End Tigray Genocide
I am writing to you as a member of your constituent—who cherishes the American values of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness—to request your urgent intervention in relation to the war crimes and genocidal actions that have been taking place in Tigray, Ethiopia. Since the start of war on Tigray there have been reports of war crimes, indiscriminate killings and acts that amount to ethnic cleansing committed by Ethiopia’s National Defense Forces, Amhara Militias, and Eritrean troops. Several investigative reports have indicated there have been several war crimes committed in Tigray by Ethiopian and Eritrean forces. Some reports include documented massacres in Axum (Source: Amnesty), Adigrat (Source: Human Rights Watch) and Debre Abay (Source: France24). In addition, satellite images, pictures, videos and testimonies indicate there have been multiple indiscriminate shelling of towns in Tigray (Source: SkyNews, Amnesty, Human Rights Watch). Médecins Sans Frontières also reported that “70% of health facilities in Ethiopia's conflict-hit northern region of Tigray have been vandalised and equipment looted.” Nearly 70% of health facilities in Ethiopia's conflict-hit northern region of Tigray have been vandalised and equipment looted. Furthermore, there have been conclusive reports of sexual violence used as a weapon of war by Ethiopian and Eritrean forces. Nima Elbagir of CNN also shed some light on these crimes when she reported from the border between Ethiopia and Sudan. Nima stated that the Ethiopian forces were telling their victims that the rape was intended to purify their blood, which shows their genocidal intent. There has been a consistent request from the world, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken, to end the hostilities on Tigray. The first step being the need for a ceasefire agreement and the second one stating the need for the evacuation of Eritrean and Amhara forces who are carrying out ethnic cleansing campaigns in western Tigray. The Ethiopian government has declined these requests from the world and as reported by Haavisto, EU envoy to Ethiopia, Ethiopia has been in denial over Tigray. The actions taken by the international community so far have produced minimal results compared to what is required to stop the crimes against humanity being committed on Tigray. I respectfully urge you to stand by the values that are the very foundation of the UN Security Council and impose economic, diplomatic and financial sanctions on Ethiopian and Eritrean governments. Thank you for your crucial consideration of these serious concerns and recommendations. I look forward to your response and actions. If you would like additional resources, there are a number of websites set up to help inform the public about what is going on in Tigray.
