An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Share COVID-19 Vaccines with India

22 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers!

As a constituent and human rights advocate, I am writing to urge you to support the sharing of COVID-19 vaccines with India, where millions of vulnerable people are suffering from this deadly virus.  I am part of a global community of 400,000 volunteers for the Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation, the largest NGO in rural India and winner of the Gandhi Peace Prize. Ekal works in 100,000 extremely remote villages, where 100 million people lack access to hospitals and other life-saving resources.  COVID-19 is spreading rapidly in rural India. If we do nothing, the virus has the power to decimate these vulnerable communities, causing long-term, generational damage. Countless human lives are in grave danger. This is a humanitarian crisis. We hope that you can help us change the course of history.  There is a dire need for vaccines in India’s rural villages. We sincerely thank the U.S. Congress for working to help India during these challenging times. Thanks to your tireless efforts, the vaccination program here in the United States has been a huge success. Now, we urge you to speed up the delivery of the COVID-19 vaccines to India, particularly AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.  The speed at which variants are developing in India presents a global risk. By sharing vaccines with India, you will also help protect your constituents.  Together, we can save tens of millions of lives.  Time is of the essence. We ask that you accelerate the transfer of AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson vaccines as soon as possible. We also urge you to expedite the delivery of raw materials for vaccine production. Thank you for your attention and support.
