An open letter to the U.S. Congress Your words matter: speak out against Coney Barrett & Trump rhetoric
16 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers! I'm outraged by the violation of fundamental fairness in the confirmation process underway for Amy Coney Barrett. It's also shocking that Lindsay Graham carried out a judiciary committee vote last week week without the required democrats present--which is a violation of the committee's rules.
And I am aghast that Coney Barrett has lies in her testimony, accepted the nomination under conditions that she herself decried as wrong a few years ago, and appears dead set on declaring the ACA to be u constitutional.
All this is appalling: it's a demonstration of staggering contempt for decency, truth, regular order, the truth and human life-- during a pandemic.
Your words matter. You may not be able to step this abomination of corruption but you can speak out more strongly-- both to the American people and to your colleagues. Failure to speak out is compliance.
I'm also appalled by Trump's recent rally where he appeared to condone the plot against Governor Whitmer and presided over a crowd shouting lock her up. Every president is charged with faithful execution of the laws. Trump should have been condemning the plotters. Congress needs to get to the bottom of this. We need to know whether Bill Barr knew and did nothing or whether the FBI judged that it could not trust him.
Trump is a stochastic terrorist. His self-seeking conduct and total contempt for life, law, and decency make him exceedingly dangerous to our lives and institutions. You can counteract that danger to some degree by speaking out now. Please do so. If you have already made statements I thank you and also you to make them again, regularly, and with more urgency and gravitas.
