Hello Dr. Cassidy, Senator Kennedy, and Representative Johnson!
I would love for us to modify restrictions on nursing home patients receiving visitors ASAP. I know patients and family members where everyone involved is vaccinated and who still can't see each other!
A husband and wife of 56 years has been apart for 3 months. The only way she is now able to see her husband is because he is in the hospital where I am taking care of him! When he goes back to the nursing home, she won't be able to see him again.
I am a fervent supporter of COVID protocols and also of patient care. I see no medical reason why vaccinated family and friends can't see each other. In the hospital we allow one visitor per patient as long as both are MASKED UP! (Even if the visitor is not yet vaccinated.)
I don't see why the same could not be done at nursing homes - especially if the patient is vaccinated and protected!
Please do what you can to modify these restrictions ASAP. Patients do better, families do better when they can see their loved ones. I really think this can be done safely and effectively. The sooner, the better! We need to get people back together!
