Save IL Nuclear Power

6 so far! Let’s get to 10 signers!

Save IL Nuclear Plants As a citizen of Illinois, I feel compelled to write to you regarding the issues surrounding the nuclear power plant closures.  I am asking you to please consider the profound ramifications these closures will have on our local regions and Illinois as a whole.      If the Byron and Dresden Stations are allowed to close, over 3,600 people could lose their jobs. The Byron and Dresden plants combined have a $1.7 billion output and an $844 million total value-added to northern Illinois' economy. I encourage you to read these economic impact studies in their entirety found here: The Illinois general assembly is being asked to consider the Clean Energy Jobs Act. This bill sets a target to produce 100% carbon-free energy by 2030 and 100% renewable energy by 2050.  Currently, Illinois produces only 8% renewable energy. There is absolutely no path forward to reach these goals without the clean and reliable energy produced by nuclear power plants.     54% of Illinois' electricity comes from nuclear power. Over 4 million homes are powered by the Byron and Dresden nuclear plants alone.  Without these plants, the cost of electricity will go up throughout the state as it did in California when their nuclear power plants were shut down.  California residents now pay 65% more in electricity costs than Illinoisans.      Now is not the time to hesitate and allow these plants to close. Please support Climate Jobs Illinois and help save Illinois nuclear power plants.
