An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures (IL only) Vote to Repeal Section 4.5 of the Educational Labor Relations Act
2,259 so far! Let’s get to 3,000 signers! I am writing to ask you to support the repeal of Section 4.5 of the Illinois Labor Relations Act. While the repeal of this Act is long overdue, it is urgent that the Chicago Teachers Union’s ability to negotiate with CHicago Public Schools over issues of safety and health for its members be restored immediately.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot campaigned in support of repealing Section 4.5 but has since walked back on that campaign promise.
CPS rank and file deserve the same rights all other Illinois districts possess in the school reopening fight.
Section 4.5 was cited last month by the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board as a key reason why an injunction sought by the CTU to stop CPS from resuming in-person classes could not be granted. This is unfair, and as we are currently witnessing potentially deadly. Please vote to right this wrong and repeal section 4.5.
