An open letter to the U.S. Congress

We Need To Repair Congress!

19 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers!

This is very important! Congress needs to be repaired. The Office of Technology Assessment, established in 1972 to provide nonpartisan scientific studies of policy decisions, ceased to exist in 1995 when the Republican-controlled Congress voted to defund it. Defunding the office "made Congress dumb - on purpose" according to Lorelei Kelly, Then director of the New Strategic Security Initiative, who believes the move, pushed by Gingrich, is contributing to the recent logjam on Capitol Hill. A decline in the ability of Congressional staffs to provide independent research can be traced to Newt Gingrich's tenure as speaker, and his recent call to abolish the Congressional Budget Office has the same aim. We need to reverse everything Gingrich did and repair congress!
