Prioritize COVID-19 vaccinations for disabled Californians in Phase 1b

111 so far! Let’s get to 250 signers!

As a resident of California concerned for friends and all California residents with disabilities, I urge you prioritize COVID-19 vaccinations for the disabled. Those with disabilities are at higher risk for medical complications and the factors that contribute to COVID-19 hospitalizations and death. They are often cared for by people at greater risk of bringing COVID-19 into their environments or people who could spread COVID-19 from that environment. Many disabled cannot vocalize the discomfort that may indicate early warning signs of COVID-19 infection. Their hospitalizations are likely to be more complicated, requiring more hospital resources to engage in their recovery, and the treatment is likely to cause great emotional and financial strain to families already facing emotional and financial adversity. In short, waiting to vaccinate the disabled is sure to cause great physical, emotional, and financial harm not only to Californians with disabilities, but to all Californians. I urge you to include all California residents with disabilities and those who care for them in Phase 1-B of the COVID-19 immunization schedule. I recognize and accept, as an able-bodied resident, that prioritizing them may delay my own vaccination. The harm for failing to prioritize the disabled has the potential to be physically, emotionally, and financially tragic, exponentially much more so than it already has been. You can mitigate that tragedy by allowing disabled Californians and those who care for them to be vaccinated in Phase 1-B. Please do so.
