Foster Parents at risk- overlooked in COVID vaccine groups

8 so far! Let’s get to 10 signers!

I am writing you in regards to the oversight in vaccine distribution to foster parents in Illinois. Currently there is no special designation for foster parents, though we are at increased risk for exposure due to court mandated biological visits with family and therapies as well as home visits from DCFS family workers, licensing workers, and case workers. Please advocate on our behalf. I have witnessed foster parents decline placements due to possible Covid exposure. Sometimes proper mask protocol was not followed at visits and a biological family member tested positive for covid and then the entire foster family was infected. I have seen teenagers elope and come back infected, placements disrupted (which is heartbreaking) because foster families did not feel safe from Covid exposure. Private families can dictate that their kids stay safe at home. They can decide to not let others in their home, especially deny access to those who go from house to house. We do not have that luxury. During this pandemic, in order to follow laws and court orders, we are unable to keep our families safe. Please advocate on our behalf. We are working in conjunction with the social work system. Please provide us the same protections.
