VOTE NO on SB 86

18 so far! Let’s get to 25 signers!

VOTE NO on SB 86 As the parent of a high school student who aspires to attend college with a STEM major and is counting on the Bright Futures scholarship to assist, I was SHOCKED and APPALLED to learn that Florida SB 86 would reduce Bright Futures funding for students who take and pass rigorous AP classes and exams. These are exactly the students who are likely to have “bright futures” and the sponsors of this bill intend to PENALIZE them for WORKING HARD? My child attends a School of Choice which has also earned the prestigious National Blue Ribbon School designation, precisely because of the number of advanced and AP classes students have access to. Every student in that school, arguably some of our county’s best students, would be HARMED by this unfair bill which would choose to reward mediocrity more than excellence. As a STEM major myself, I can attest that having AP credits doesn’t translate to needing fewer college hours. Often it simply frees those hours to take even more advanced and rigorous courses in college for the pursuit of advanced degrees. VOTE NO on SB 86.
