An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Abolish the Death Penalty

9 so far! Let’s get to 10 signers!

Today, the federal government executed Brandon Bernard. The death penalty is barbaric and inhumane and should be abolished. Black people, especially those who are queer, disabled, and low-income, are disproportionately sentenced to death. A stunning number of people are found innocent after being on death row. Nationally, at least one person is exonerated for every ten executed. Capital punishment does not prevent capital crimes. We have progressed beyond the barbarism of the death penalty and it should be abolished.
