An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Delay SCOTUS vote to maintain GOP precedent

27 so far! Let’s get to 50 signers!

In 2016, you and your GOP colleagues refused to hold a hearing on President Obama’s nominee to SCOTUS, inventing the principle that the senate should not fill an open seat on the Supreme Court before a new president is sworn in. I agree with President Obama’s statement that, “A basic principle of the law — and of everyday fairness — is that we apply rules with consistency, and not based on what’s convenient or advantageous in the moment.” It would be inappropriate and hypocritical to fill a SCOTUS seat when we are less than two weeks, TWO WEEKS away from a presidential election. 47 million people have already voted! I strongly urge you to maintain the precedent you set in 2016 by refusing to vote on any SCOTUS nominee prior to Biden’s inauguration or Trump’s re-election.
