An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures

Why is it legal for elected officials to push radicalized propaganda?

When does it become illegal for a representative to push radicalized propaganda? I need help understanding where the law stands with elected officials in the US when it comes to spreading dangerous conspiracy theories. Not speaking of any of you directly; however at least one of concern in Colorado, and multiple around the country. If an elected representative, on any level, local, state, national, spreads information which is already proven false or misleading, and that information also causes harm to others, or insights others to take harmful actions, where is that line drawn? I understand, legally, there is a difference between someone knowingly spreading harmful misinformation, versus believing in it themselves. Either way, in representing our government and the people therein, knowingly or not, a danger is posed. I hold all elected representatives to a higher standard than regular citizens. Not because you are super-human, but because we, the population you represent, have trusted you to do what is right, moral, honest and in the best interest of everyone. When does it become illegal for a representative to push radicalized propaganda? When and how can they be removed from office? This is beyond the riots at the Capital (while that is front and center on my mind), it also includes for example school shooting conspiracy theories. Please help me understand the law; the clear and the gray areas. Help me understand how these disgusting, harmful treasonous acts can come to an end.
