Support bill H.R. 2590
Letter As a Jewish American taxpayer with the interest in children, adults, students and other Palestinian human lives, I am writing to ask that you become a co-sponsor of H.R. 2590 Defending the Human Rights of Palestinian Children and Families Living Under Israeli Military Occupation Act, introduced by Representative Betty McCollum (D-MN). This bill will ensure that my family and I’d taxpayer dollars do not fund the Israeli government’s imprisonment and torture of Palestinians, the theft and destruction of Palestinian homes and property, or further annexation of Palestinian land in violation of international law. I believe that this can act as the beginning in a series of laws that can help to end not only the Palestinian Israeli conflict, but also being about peace within the Middle East. My parents lived in Israel during the first intifada and I have spent my entire life hearing about the atrocities they witnessed as a result of the IDF and Hamas. The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed many of the systemic injustices across the globe, there is no excuse for intensifying the harms of state violence and discrimination. Israel is no exception, if this were any other country the US would have stepped in or stopped funding them. During the pandemic, the Israeli government has continued to imprison Palestinians, specifically children under a military court system, putting them in grave danger of contracting COVID while also separating them from their families and communities. I urge you to stand up for the rights of a people without a state and without a home. I urge you to help end the oppression of Palestinians under a violent apartheid. The U.S. must stop funding the Israeli government’s human rights abuses and war crimes. The IDF have attacked hospitals, civilians, homes of worship and cultural/historical monuments. The U.S. must stop funding a genocide under the guise of defending our allies. I hope that you will add your name to this legislation and take a stand for human rights, justice and peace.
